Jane O’Brien

Profile

Jane’s inspiration comes from her interest in textiles and the messages that they convey through their construction, pattern and colour.  She uses textiles to create a visual response about social culture and the world around us.  Her collages evolve through her use of sketching, printing and stitch combinations.  She has explored the history of the damask pattern focusing on it’s depiction in Renaissance art and more recently on how many of these patterns have travelled along the east/west trade routes.

Jane’s background is in interior design and soft furnishings having worked as a designer as well as a teacher.  More recently her academic studies in the history of art and her exploration of textiles have enabled her to exhibit with various group as well as with The Designer Crafts Society at the Mall Galleries and Chelsea Art School.
